Admissions

To ensure a smooth settling-in period it is expected that on accepting a place parents arrange to spend time in the nursery with their child prior to their start date, we usually set aside two or three settling-in sessions for all private paying parents which are free. This settling-in time, helps the child to adjust gradually to the new environment, the nursery staff and other children.

When a child starts to attend, we explain the process of settling-in with his/her parents and jointly decide on the best way to help the child to settle into the setting.

We recognise that some children take longer to settle into the nursey and may require more settling-in sessions until they are ready to be left without their parent/carer.

During the first settling-in session which is an hour long, we have an expectation that the parent, carer or close relative, will stay for most of the session, gradually taking time away from their child, slowly increasing this as and when the child is able to cope and adopt to the enviroment. Before a child starts to attend the setting, we use a variety of ways to provide his/her parents with information. These include written information (*including our prospectus and policies), displays of current theme and planned activities for the week, dates for information days and evenings and individual meetings with parents.

In the first session a practitioner will fill out a Child Induction Form with the parents/carer, enabling staff to derive as much information about their child’s routine i.e. interests, sleep time, eating habits, allergies, and comfy toy (if any).

Our second settling session is for two and a half hours long in which the practitioner’s make the learning environment comfortable, safe and stimulating for the child/babies. This allows the child/baby to feel safe for when they start nursery. Implementing the childs interests derived from the Child Induction Form such as having toys and resources out or availiable makes settling in easier for the child/baby.

At Tarbiyah we believe building strong links with children and their parents is an important element tht enables the child/baby to flourish at Tarbiyah. We see children looking for their key person when he/she arrives, goes to them for comfort, and also have a strong bond with other staff in the room.
